The Polara Golf Ball Won’t Hook or Slice
Posted on July 5th, 2011 in Recreation and Sports | Comments Off
Recently, Polara Golf developed a golf ball that won’t slice. The recreational golfer or the duffer might consider this to be a good thing but it is considered to be an illegal golf ball. These New Golf Balls have an irregular dimple pattern which means that it doesn’t conform to the official rules of golf.
In other words, the Royal & Ancient and the United States Golf Association will not allow this ball to be played in competitions – neither for PGA Tour competition or for local tournaments. However, this golf ball is designed for the beginner or weekend golfer, so they will probably not care if it is illegal or not.
The slice is one of the most common swing faults and it is estimated that around 80% of golfers can not hit a ball straight. The new Polara golf ball will reduce the effects of a slice or a hook by 75%. This is achieved by two distinct regions of dimples; shallow dimples on the ball’s equator and deeper dimples on the poles.
When teeing off, the golfer must align the arrow which is stamped on the ball with their intended target. However, there is one problem with this concept; when the ball lands on the fairway, the arrow will probably not be aligned with the target. The golfer would therefore need to pick up the ball and re-align the arrow to the target.
Not only do we have an illegal golf ball, we also have a golf ball that encourages golfers to break golf rules. Golf is still called the gentleman’s game because there is no umpire calling the shots; the golfer has to be honest and call fouls on them self. So, what the Polara ball will give the game of golf is a type of golfer that believes they are hitting the ball straight and thinks that it is alright to bend the rules to their advantage.
There are a lot of golfers that have said they would love to play this new ball because it will make them feel less nervous on the first tee and will therefore make the game more enjoyable for them. In my mind, there are reasons why certain golf equipment is illegal – because it gives the golfer an unfair advantage. Also, those golfers that are willing to use the Polara ball are just kidding themselves – if they have a slice then they should learn How to Fix a Slice.
I have been playing golf for a very long time and even though golf can sometimes be frustrating, a ball that is designed so that one can’t slice is not good for the future of the game. Golf is a difficult game to master and that is what makes it the game it is. You have to practice and you have to try and correct your swing faults.
If you have any doubts about using an illegal golf ball or golf club, ask yourself this: would you be satisfied with your game if you were to walk down the fairway and place your ball in the middle of the fairway? Case closed!
